Professional Mechanical Plaque Control (PMPR)

Beautiful teeth are born from beautiful gums.

To restore a mouth to its former beauty, the gum health must be impeccable.

This requires gum health treatment and possibly minor surgery. This is called Professional Mechanical Plaque Control (PMPR). A simple ‘scale and polish’ is not suitable for those with chronic gum diseases.

The usual protocol to establish excellent gum health, starts at home. Using an Oral-B round headed brush 2-3 times daily for 3 minutes has excellent evidence for gum health benefit. Next interdental brushes should be used daily. Your dentist can help you find the correct size brush to use, or watch this excellent video.

The treatment we can provide for you often takes 2 forms:

1. Ultrasonic tools - using a combination of high pressure water and air to break down ‘plaques’ which are responsible for causing gum diseases

2. Airflow by EMS - this revolutionary new tool is transforming how patients view gum health treatment. It is considerably more comfortable and efficient in removing the causative agents of gum disease without the need for hand and ultrasonic instruments. It uses a combination of air and very fine powder, along with warmed water for temperature regulation. This results in a much more enjoyable patient experience with excellent long term results. At Parkway, we are fortunate to have 2 such machines in operation at any one time.
